Arthur Wardle (English) was well known for his paintings of domestic and wild animals, but in particular those of dogs and sporting scenes. He was thought to be a natural and it is said that he was completely self-taught. His first work was accepted for exhibition at the Royal Academy in 1880 when he was just 16 years of age. In all he exhibited 113 works at the Royal Academy between 1880 and 1938.
