Edwin Megargee was born in Philadelphia in the United States and studied at Georgetown University. He had considerable involvement with the dog world and was a well-known breeder and exhibitor of Scottish Terriers under the Tobermory prefix. Megargee served as president of both the Scottish Terrier Club of America and the Associated Terrier Clubs of America.
He is best known as a prolific illustrator and portrait painter of canine subjects, particularly the purebred dog and was highly skilled in various media, principally oil, pen and ink, watercolor and aquatint etchings. He was also responsible for the logo on the Greyhound bus which travels the highways of the USA.
