Kilburne was born in Norfolk, England in 1839. He served an apprenticeship in London with Dalziel Brothers, Engravers & Illustrators.
He became popular through his many contributions to magazines such as "The Graphic", "Illustrated London News" and "Cassell's Magazines" and was well-known for his hunting scenes. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1868-1918 and his works appears in many public and private collections.
